Fuchsia - small original Batik painting.
Dark Fuchsia flowers have a feeling of evening light.
First the artist does sketches direct from the flowers. Then a design is drawn onto the cotton cloth that is stretched over a screen. Dyes are applied then hot wax is painted onto areas that will remain that colour as the wax will resist subsequent colours that will be painted on. Gradually, and in stages the picture is created. In the final stage the cotton is removed from the screen and immersed in a dye bath of a dark colour. Once dry the cloth is ironed between sheets of absorbant paper to remove the wax - leaving the piece of cloth with the completed picture.
