Description
Rowan, Bird and Mistletoe. Original Batik painting.
A hungry bird feasts on winter berries.
The artist starts by drawing the design onto the stretched cotton cloth. Then working with the lightest colours first, dyes are applied. Hot wax is painted onto areas that must remain that colour - the wax repels subsequent dyes that are painted onto the fabric. The picture is then built up in stages. Finally the fabric is removed from the stretcher and immersed in the darkest dye colour which permeates any areas that are not waxed. When dry the picture is ironed between sheets of absorbant paper to melt the wax - leaving the final picture.
Window mounted in conservation grade board and signed by the artist.
Published dimensions include the mount.
